ātmā purāṇaṃ vedānāṃ pṛthagaṃgāni tāni ṣaṭ /
yacca dṛṣṭaṃ hi vedeṣu taddṛṣṭaṃ smṛtibhiḥ kila //

The purāṇa is the soul of the Vedas, while they are the six separate limbs;
and what is indeed seen in the Vedas is seen in the traditions.
