śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca:
āścaryabhūtaṃ loke 'sminnarmadāyāṃ purātanam /
bhrūṇahatyā gatā tatra brāhmaṇasya narādhipa //
Glorious Mārkaṇḍeya said: / "There is an ancient, wondrous thing in this world at the Narmadā: / the sin of killing an embryo left a brāhmaṇa there, O king."
