asahantī tu tattejo gaṅgāpi saritāṃ varā /
śarastambe vinikṣipya jagāmāśu yathāgatam //
Unable to bear that splendour, even Gaṅgā, best of rivers, / cast it into a reed-bed and quickly went away as she had come.
