purā kṛtayugasyādau jābālirbrāhmaṇo 'bhavat /
vasiṣṭhānvayasambhūto vedaśāstrārthapāragaḥ //
Formerly, at the beginning of the Kṛta age, there was a brāhmaṇa named Jābāli,
born in the lineage of Vasiṣṭha, who had crossed to the end of the meaning of the Vedas and treatises.
