vareṇa chandayāmāsa rākṣasaṃ vṛṣaketanaḥ /
varaṃ vṛṇīṣva bhadraṃ te tava dāsyāmi suvrata //

the bull-bannered [god] offered the rākṣasa a choice of boons:
"Choose a boon; may it be well with you; I will grant it to you, O you of good vows."
