provāca rākṣaso vākyaṃ devadevaṃ maheśvaram /
varadaṃ so 'grato dṛṣṭvā praṇamya ca punaḥpunaḥ //
The rākṣasa spoke these words to the god of gods, Maheśvara,
having seen the granter of boons before him and having bowed again and again:
