sarveṣāmeva snānānāṃ bhasmasnānaṃ paraṃ smṛtam /
purāṇair ṛṣibhiḥ proktaṃ sarvaśāstreṣvanuttamam //
Among all baths, indeed, the ash-bath is considered the highest; / it was declared by the ancient sages as the foremost among all scriptures.
