darśayanto muneḥ śaktiṃ tamapṛcchan dvijottamam /
śrotum icchāma te brahman kiṃ pāpaṃ kṛtavānasi //
Displaying their power to the sage, they questioned that best of the twice-born: / 'We wish to hear from you, O brāhmaṇa: what sin have you committed?'
