śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca:
tilodakī tilasnāyī kāmakrodhavivarjitaḥ /
brāhmaṇo 'naśanaiḥ prāṇāṃs tyajallabhati sadgatim //

The venerable Mārkaṇḍeya said: / Offering sesamum-water, bathing with sesamum, free from desire and anger, / a brāhmaṇa relinquishing his vital breaths through fasts attains a good destination.
