ā jaṅgamaṃ tamobhūtam aprajñātamalakṣaṇam /
naṣṭacandrārkakiraṇam āsīd bhūtavivarjitam //
All the moving world was enveloped in darkness, unknown, devoid of distinguishing marks, / with the rays of moon and sun lost, empty of living beings.
