tadahaṃ sampravakṣyāmi purāṇārthaviśārada /
sapta kalpā mahāghorā yair iyaṃ na mṛtā sarit //

That I shall fully proclaim, O you who are skilled in the meaning of the purāṇas:
the seven very terrible kalpas through which this river did not perish.
