tatra sthāne mahāpuṇyā devairutpāditā svayam /
tato devanadī jātā sā hitāya nṛṇāṃ bhuvi //
At that place, the most holy [river] was brought forth by the gods themselves; / then she became the divine river for the welfare of men on earth.
