śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca:
sarvadevamayo viṣṇur gāvo viṣṇuśarīrajāḥ /
devāstadubhayāt tasmāt kalpitā vividhā janaiḥ //
Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya said: / Viṣṇu consists of all the gods, and cows are born from Viṣṇu's body; / therefore, from both of them, various gods have been conceived by people.
