gavārthe brāhmaṇārthe ca sadyaḥ prāṇānparityajet /
evaṃ sā narmadā proktā brahmādyaiḥ surasattamaiḥ //
For the sake of cows and for the sake of Brahmins, one should instantly give up one's life!' / Thus was Narmadā addressed by Brahmā and the other best among the gods.
