caṇḍi ! tvaccaraṇāmbujārcanakṛte bilvīdalolluṇṭana-
truṭyatkaṇṭakakoṭibhiḥ paricayaṃ yeṣāṃ na jagmuḥ karāḥ .
te daṇḍāṅkuśacakracāpakuliśaśrīvatsamatsyāṅkitai-
rjāyante pṛthivībhujaḥ kathamivāmbhojaprabhaiḥ pāṇibhiḥ ..

“O ferocious goddess, if men's hands have not attained intimacy
with the sharp points of snapping thorns while tearing bilva leaves to worship your lotus feet,
how indeed are they born as rulers of the earth,
with hands radiant as lotuses and marked with the rod, goad, wheel, bow, thunderbolt, śrīvatsa, and fish?”
