அரையுற்று அமைந்த ஆரம் நீவிப்,

Stroking the sandal paste applied to your chest,
your chest adorned with a garland fit for you,
embracing you so that marks are left upon my fair breast,
your coming and returning in the night is indeed sweet to me!
Amidst the roaring of huge waves, where all movement has ceased
on a dark night of the east wind, plunging into the black sea,
the bright lights dispel darkness for those taking fat fish;
like the radiant diadem fixed upon the adorned forehead of a battle-swaying elephant
in the encampment of a king of unyielding resolve,
so it shines in the forward harbor of Puṟantai with its seaside grove of blooming punṉai,
the city of Periyaṉ, the generous lord who rewards bards,
possessor of swift, fine chariots.
Just like the clamor of the flock of new herons there,
covert rumors have indeed arisen
in our noisy village with screw-pine gardens,
where buffaloes wandering in the cool dawn of daybreak
feed upon fresh blue water lilies!
