மறம்புகல் மழ களிறு உறங்கும் நாடன்;

In the vast, tall millet field rich in wild horses,
the mountain hunter, joyful with toddy, sleeps in his loft;
while the gentle wafting breeze dries her dark thick tresses,
smeared with ground sandalwood, without shifting her hand,
she combs her thick, long hair, the mountain girl,
and sings the kuriñci tune beside the high mountain;
neither taking his voice nor stirring from his stand,
his ever-unblinking green eyes receiving sleep, swiftly
the fierce young bull elephant falls asleep in his land;
with bees humming on the garland across his chest,
wearing a garland and head-wreath, weapon in his right hand,
careful to escape the watchmen's notice, gently
pushing the unlatched door, he entered,
embraced my chest filled with languishing yearning, wedded my shoulders,
mingled sweet words with me, and departed, my friend! —
What can it be today that I see — that through his lack of grace,
becoming village whisper, together arriving
and rejoicing, this pallor on the bright forehead
of her with thick braided hair?
