முனிய அலைத்தி, முரண்இல் காலை;

So that the beautiful, saw-cut bangles slip down my arms,
wishing to put an end to an unfulfilled life—
while white blossoms like hail scatter from the mature buds of the īṅkai,
resembling cold, wet seeds,
and pollen-laden blue water lilies open in the dews
to resemble the dark, soft-bearded faces of black-tailed chameleons,
and clouds of swift movement, emptied after raining,
wander through the sky touched with dark haze
like elephants that cease their must, with broad-soled feet, wide mouths, and red, sleepless eyes—
at the dead of midnight when cold frost settles,
without weighing the endurance of solitary folk, you afflict us
coldly and tormentingly, O north wind, at a time when we have no strength!
If he who went in search of wealth through righteous deeds
fit for gods whom hands revere should swiftly return,
you would run away from us,
just like those honorless kings who abandoned nine parasols in broad daylight,
giving victory [to their foe] on the battlefield without wearing the vākai garland,
unable to stand before Karikālaṉ of vast glory,
who encamped on desired lands with horsemen of flowing manes and a dreadful army!
