A noble bull of surpassing strength,
after roaming all day long in the cool, flower-filled pond,
embraces the splendid young heifer of soft-eyed buffaloes,
approaches the garden, and stays in the wetland field—
such is the lord of the loud, joyous town;
if his tall chariot with chiming bells
never ceases to move for many days in the quarter of women of brilliant jewel-sheen,
who can she be, that well-jeweled woman?
Like us, believing the true words of a deceitful playboy,
with tears dropping onto her breast like rain poured on blossoms swaying as wind strikes them,
eyes pale yellow, so that her companions and neighbours are bewildered,
did she lose those arms which rejected the choice beauty nurtured by her mother?
