To wash away the long, slashed, gaping wounds
of the male elephant walking languidly after battling a tiger,
hailstones and heavy drops poured down in the night,
and at dawn, because of the copious flow of pure white mountain streams,
white clouds embrace the shining mountains, veiling them,
so that they look like the smoke of burning pots—O lord of such a land!
Why do you come at night? If you come by day,
in the stone-cave loft where elephants cannot stretch to reach,
belonging to our father of unfailing spear and bountiful joy,
you may drive away the parrots flocking to the small millets alongside us,
sleep on the soft bed of her hair
adorned with many fragrant, bright, honey-dripping flowers
of the blue water lily from the copious pool on the abundant rock;
and as the day draws to a close,
like a huge male elephant that browsed the protected millet field
hiding from the watchmen, you may return
to your town where the black-stemmed kuriñci grows.
