Desiring to embrace the fine, beauteous chest,
with swelling, joint-filling bamboo-like arms resembling bent reeds,
and tender breasts wearing varied ornaments adorned with sparse freckles,
you performed noble exertion, becoming a helpful companion
to those who do not retain a name of falling back—
having unloaded the burdens from the backs of short-legged, long-eared male donkeys
filled with goods, to escape the daytime heat in the house-like shade
of a grand branch with beautiful tender shoots on an expansive yā tree,
in the wasteland of eye-scorching junctions where the sharp-chisel carved,
faint-lined writing on the hard-topped hero stones—their crowns dried,
whose soft tops were damaged by the cartwheels of salt-merchants
striking the timber—gives a different fear to newly arrived wayfarers on that path!
May you flourish, my heart!
You who separated from that abundantly innocent woman
with red-dyed mouth shining with few words
and cool, streaked, wide eyes jubilant as if rejoiced by toddy—
having turned back, you now pine with thought!
