“‘Like dark-petalled blue water lilies woven upon a fair lotus flower of pure blossom,
is her beautiful face where large, proud, cool eyes wander—
the simple woman of fine petals and forearms adorned with bracelets;
even if a single thread should intervene across her swelling breasts,
she sulks at the embrace—in this exceedingly great passion,
there is nothing superior to the blissful enjoyment!’
So I spoke with love, but you did not take my words,
O bewildered heart possessed by desire for wealth!—
Like a tortoise, scorched by rising flames placed upon it
so that men of greatness might eat its uncharred meat, yearns to enter a deep pool with shade,
you must now cease to think of the shoulders of the young woman of few words and thorn-sharp teeth!—
For we have crossed the vast wasteland tract amidst the hot rocks of many hills,
while sorrow mounts!
