நிறைசெலல் இவுளி விரைவுடன் கடைஇ
அகலிரு விசும்பிற் பகல்செலச் சென்று
மழுகுசுடர் மண்டிலம் மாமலை மறைய
பொழுதுகழி மலரிற் புனையிழை! சாஅய்!
அணை அணைந்து இனையை ஆகல்- கணையரைப்
புல்லிலை நெல்லிப் புகரில் பசுங்காய்
கல்லதர் மருங்கில் கடுவளி உதிர்ப்ப
பொலஞ்செய் காசிற் பொற்பத் தாஅம்
அத்தம் நண்ணி அதர்பார்த் திருந்த
கொலைவெங் கொள்கைக் கொடுந்தொழின் மறவர்
ஆறுசெல் மாக்கள் அருநிறத்து எறிந்த
எஃகுஉறு விழுப்புண் கூர்ந்தோர் எய்திய
வளைவாய்ப் பருந்தின் வள்ளுகிர்ச் சேவல்
கிளைதரு தெள்விளி கெழுமுடைப் பயிரும்
இன்னா வெஞ்சுரம் இறந்தோர் முன்னிய
செய்வினை வலத்தர் ஆகி இவணயந்து
எய்தவந் தனரே!- தோழி!- மையெழில்
துணையேர் எதிர்மலர் உண்கண்
பிணையேர் நோக்கம் பெருங்கவின் கொளவே.

Urging his horses of swift pace to rush onward,
as the sun moved across the wide, dark expanse of heaven
and the dimming disc set behind the great mountain,
O wearer of fine jewels, fading like a flower whose time is past!
Do not lean upon the bolster and sorrow like this!
From the thick-trunked, sparse-leaved nelli trees, flawless green fruits
are scattered along the rocky path by the fierce wind
and lie spread out, looking like coins of crafted gold.
There in the wilderness, watching the path,
ferocious warriors bent on cruel deeds and murder
strike travelers in their vulnerable chests with javelins;
upon those suffering great wounds, sharp-clawed male vultures
with curved beaks assemble, calling out to their kin in clear cries.
He who crossed that harsh, hot wilderness tract
has succeeded in the task he intended, and yearning for this place,
has arrived right here, my friend!
So that your eyes, lined with kohl, beautiful as paired blossoms,
and your doe-like gaze may regain their great beauty!
