"Our maiden of fair brow, with tresses that smell of Himālayan woods,
which have fed on dark sandalwood, with tufts rising to peaks!
With a heart loving as if to drink her sweet-to-touch chest,
without tarrying there to embrace her ardently,
he will not linger long—
he who has crossed the mountain along the path on the summit
where bamboos split, on the desolate crags scorched by blazing rays,
where gentle sambar deer chew their cud and listen to the clear, solitary tune
of the sweet, small bamboo flute played artlessly by the herdsmen of many cows,
resting in the abiding shade of the drooping cassia tree,
having scattered with their staffs their horn-blown, bell-ringing, fruitful great herds,
which entered the withered tracts, drinking the spring water of deep bamboos
dug with axes on the edges of wilderness paths,
after eating the green stems of gooseberries of many clusters
that appear like flawless crystals."
