"'As distress intensifies with loosening jewels,
suffering with excessive sorrow, grieving much and languishing,
her tender shoulders thinning and drooping, watching her sallow body,
which has entirely turned the color of withered golden shower blossoms,
her forehead grown pale, he does not show grace to us who have become like this here;
for the cruelty done by your lord, tears swiftly
well and spill from her spinning, cool rain-like eyes;
when you depart, turning well away from her, ah,
what will it be said of the lord of your hill country?
O rushing flood battering the banks! Speak!' rebuking thus,
afraid to be angry with you, covering yourself with many flowers from his mountain,
shrinking back in great shame, you pass by, hiding yourself.
How capable are they of abandoning [us] devoid of grace, sending you on your way!
Those strangers lack such consideration.
Pausing in the shade of the fiery-branched kino tree to rest,
if you lodge and go from the multi-flowered forest of my father,
which resembles the gold-yielding high mountain of the Āryas, flourishing when rains protect it,
would anything be ruined,
O you who come from the high mountain country of him
where male elephants, robbed of their vigor, embrace their weary cows,
their wounds deep from battling with striped, huge male tigers,
among the sound of curved bamboos?"
