As the sharp tips of jasmine appear and the tender buds / of the green-stemmed golden shower trees untie along with the illam trees,
and blackbuck antelopes leap, having reached the gravelly hollows, / their horns dark and large as if twisted from iron;
as the broad world casts off its loneliness, / the dense clouds scatter rapid drops of rain / and bring the dark clouds: the lovely forest is transformed;
reining in the curved leather straps, sounding like lute-strings, / of his horses with trimmed manes and flowing manes, / lest the pollen-eating bees resting with their mates / on flowering boughs be frightened, / he has muffled the clapper of the chariot-bell— / look there, he appears in his well-wrought chariot, / the lord of the land of small hills,
speeding toward your great beauty, O maiden wearing selected bangles! / —fragrant as the blossoming flowers of the dense gloriosa lilies / on the long, high hill east of Uṟantai of the loud festival!
