நெடுஞ்சேண் ஆரிடை விலங்கும் ஞான்றே?
A red-eared vulture, rising in desire for flesh to bring constant food / for its curved-beaked mate that stays in the nest after laying eggs / in the vast, guarded space among the large, lovely branches / of the black-trunked tooth-brush tree resembling the rough hide of a crocodile from the deep backwaters— / having fully devoured and sated itself on the bright red blood / after a tiger of victorious might vanquished a swaying-strided wild cow / on the slope of a towering mountain whose summit touches the sky, / relentlessly seizes the rotting meat in high decay left by the stinking tiger, / like plundering men, on the wide distant desert pathway with small-leaved bur-flower trees;
showing me this so that I may cross it with a heart set on bringing wealth, / my mind urges me from behind; how will it remove the distress / of your words, false though spoken by your mouth, / when the gaze directed toward her curved earrings / by the young woman of fine ornaments, with sweet words / and a lovely red mouth like the petal of a red silk-cotton flower, / blocks my way across the long, difficult path?
