The king has arrived and finished his task;
the foes have paid their tribute and become allies;
the drums of both armies that stood bristling with fury
have sounded together in unison;
charioteer! drive your chariot swiftly, not lagging behind
the vehicles speeding ahead, so that in a single journey it finishes—
that I may attain sweet sleep on the noble bosom of her
who is like cool Kuṭavāyil with its green fortresses
surrounded by deep pools trampled by heavy steps,
its expanse of many households with ancient abundant paddy,
and ceaseless new wealth like Aḻumpil,
belonging to Cenni of great ornaments and woven, lovely garlands,
who, when Palaiyaṉ fell, offered to the vultures
in that measureless war camp where once they gathered—
Nannaṉ, Ēṟṟai, Atti wearing fragrant ornaments,
terrible, fiercely valiant Kaṅkaṉ, Kaṭṭi,
and Puṉtuṟai of the strong bow adorned with gold—
unable to bear what he saw, captured Kaṇaiyan of the sturdy chariot
and took Kaḻumalam!
