Strong-handed men equipped with well-toned shoulders / struck sparks intensely and crushed rocks, proceeding with their work, / building steep and strong deep wells in rock; / from those fractured stony depths, springs gushed forth / and the Koṅkar passed through that parched land, / leading a herd with chiming bells upright towards the water, / while the reddish dust raised by the red cows / rose firmly into the wide, dark sky. / In that vast expanse, when linked with us in companionship, / you did not say, 'We will return when we can,' but languished / in mounting distress—long may you live, my heart!— / where the white-eyed mate of the dark-winged, curve-beaked kite / utters a long call in that endless expanse, / as curved-bow Eyinar, sounding harsh tudis with lovely mouths / shrill at every kill, traverse the deadly wasteland; / traversing desert pathways bristling with rocks, / you who parted bound to transient wealth!
