Wearing fresh flowers that smell fragrant in the desert path from the right-spiraling bur-flower tree, / so that they adorn their curly, flowing manes of hair, / rejoicing at separating a bull elephant calf, / while a gentle cow elephant with dark-stained feet wails in the forest, / with heightened clamor, / splitting stout branches of dark-trunked bur-flower trees, / fastening it deep with vast, thick strips of white bast fiber, / which they bind to hariali grass roots at the good houses where liquor is sold, / in the ancient town with markets where long banners flutter, / [these] untaught young warriors whose great lord is Pulli, / even if I cross his Vēṅkaṭam in his broad, fine land, / not saying, ‘He is far away’, urging great love, / they have come and arrived indeed— / the sweet qualities of our beloved with uplifted, lovely rain-like eyes / that resemble the matching flowers of the water lily opening from their buds!
