அன்னை முன்னர், யாம்என், இதற்படலே?

Slowly, slowly my forehead has paled; wasted, / my sprout-like body has grown very thin; / my grief has become clear for many to know. / Unless it takes my life and ends it, / what does thinking of it do? May you live long, my friend! / The clustered flowers with hollow tubes resembling hail, / dropped from dense bunches of the rough-trunked iruppai with cracked base, / are seized by a great clan of bears giving birth, / distressing newly arrived travelers on long wilderness pathways— / yet mother does not say, ‘Pity him who crossed many wastelands!’; / instead, seeking to avert scandal, she consoles herself, / understanding us and saying: ‘What the gossiping women of this town / maliciously say is not fitting for my daughter!’ / Before her, why should we fall into this state?
