Its potsherds are the skull-bones; its hair is the two grass-brooms; the two fanning-fans are the ears; the two fan-handles are the nostrils; the two gold plates are the eyes—the golden one the right, the silver one the left. The Mahāvīras are the neck; the caru-pot is the mouth; the two hooves are the jaws; the two aniṣṭubdhis are the knee-caps; the tusks are the pegs; the teeth are what he deposits in the Gharma; the bamboo cord-holders of the two ropes are the tongue; the sinews are the bamboo cords; the puroḍāśa is the brain. That he covers it over with live coals, that is the flesh; the hair is the grass-brooms; the clarified butter is marrow; the two milks are fat. The ṛc-verses are the form; the yajus-formulas are the breaths; the sāmans are the lights; the quarters of space are the hearing. And these are the sacrifice possessing a head. Endowed with a head, chief does he become who knows this. This indeed is that head; not from him […]. [With the mantra:] 'They call you Bhaga, the two eyes; with those look upon me' […]; of it, the sun and moon are indeed the two eyes. […] [With the mantra:] 'With that wild-honey-essence I anoint your form; with that anoint my form': thus he proclaims its form and majesty. [With the mantra:] 'With the rituals of the gods, with the divine unguents I anoint [you]; you are the one having the name Lord': this indeed is Rudra's dear name; with his dear name, with divine unguents, he anoints him. [With the mantra:] 'Of him, yours are the ṛc-verses, the yajus-formulas, and the sāmans': 'the ṛc-verses, the yajus-formulas, and the sāmans,' he means by this. [With the mantra:] 'Speech in Agni, one eye in the sun, one in the sun, one in Agni, one in Agni, one in Agni': thus he invigorates his two eyes. For Bhaga is blind. Blind offspring are not born to him. [With the mantra:] 'May I become endowed with fortune': he places sight in himself. [With the mantra:] 'You are Ira's descendant; you are sight; you are hearing; you are the speech named Purandhi': he instructs them. Therefore instructed offspring are born. [With the mantra:] 'With that which Śatakratu offered the share, with that I invoke you, Bhaga': the gods indeed excluded Rudra from a share; he turned toward the gods with stretched [bow]; those gods invoked him with this dear name, with this dear abode, which is the Pravargya.
