mahimānamevāsyaitaduddharṣayati 92 gāyatramasi traiṣṭubhamasi jāgatamasīti . pratiprasthātre prayaśchati . hotrā vā ṛtvijo . hotrābhya evainametatsamprayaśchati . ekamagnidhe pratiprasthātre . pradakṣiṇampariyanti 93 madhu madhu madhv iti dhūnvanti . madhu sāragham̐ sambhariṣyāmītyevaitadāha 94 prāṇo'si vyāno'syapāno'sīti . prāṇaṃ vyānamapānantāneva yajamāne dadhāti 96 śrotramasīti śrotrameva yajamāne dadhāti . sarva ṛtvijaḥ pariviśanti . hotrā vā ṛtvijo . hotrābhya evainametatsamprayaśchati 97 agniṣṭvā dhūnotv ityetābhirevainaṃ devatābhirdhūnoti . --- . prajvalite rukmamapadatte . --- divyo gandharvo bhuvanasya yaspatir--- ime vai lokā bhuvanaṃ . teṣāmeṣo'dhipatiryo rudra ḥ! --- ekāvyo manasā vikṣv īḍya --- tantvā yāmi brahmaṇā deva daivyamiti . yadvā enambrahmaṇopacareyurhiṃsyādenam . brahma śivaṃ śāntam . brahmaṇaivainamupacarati 98 divi te sadhasthamiti divi te gṛhamityevaitadāha 99 divi pṛṣṭo yajatassūryatvagiti devā vai rudra m̐! svargaṃ lokaṃ gataṃ na vyajānannādityavarṇaṃ carantan . te'bruvanko'sīti . ahaṃ rudro 'hamindro 'hamādityo'haṃ sarvasyāvayā haraso divyasyeti . te'bruvannirbhajāmainamiti . tānruvannabhyavadat . tānprādhrajat . te'bruvanbhavānsarvamiti . yadruvannabhyavadattadrudra sya rudra tvaṃ . yadbhavāniti tadbhavasya bhavatvaṃ yatsarvamiti taccharvasya śarvatvam̐ . sa śivo'bhavat . tacchivasya śivatvaṃ . tebhyo'mṛḻata . tanmṛḻasya mṛḻatvaṃ . taṃ devā abruvanbhavasya bhūtasya bhavyasyādhipatyamiti .

he thereby stirs up his greatness. "You are connected with Gāyatrī, you are connected with Triṣṭubh, you are connected with Jagatī": he hands it to the pratiprasthātṛ. The priests are the priestly functions; to the priestly functions he delivers it. One [fan] to the fire-kindler, [one] to the pratiprasthātṛ. They walk around clockwise. With "Sweetness, sweetness, sweetness!" they fan it; "I will gather bee-sweetness" is what he says. "You are out-breath, you are cross-breath, you are down-breath": out-breath, cross-breath, down-breath—these he places in the sacrificer. "You are hearing": he places hearing in the sacrificer. All the priests go around. The priests are the priestly functions; to the priestly functions he delivers it. With "May Agni fan you...", he fans him with these deities. When it is ablaze, he removes the gold plate. "The divine Gandharva, who is master of the world...": these worlds are the world; of them this one is the overlord, who is Rudra. "... the single, wise, to be praised with mind among the peoples...": "Thee I approach with the prayer, divine deity": if they were to approach him without the holy power, it would harm him. The holy power is auspicious, peaceful; with the holy power he approaches him. "In heaven is your seat": "In heaven is your home" is what he says. "Celebrated in heaven, worshipful, of sun-skin": the gods did not recognize Rudra when he went to the heavenly world, moving in sun-like appearance. They said, "Who are you?" [He said,] "I am Rudra, I am Indra, I am Āditya, I am the dispeller of all divine wrath." They said, "Let us exclude him." Howling, he spoke against them; he rushed toward them. They said, "You are everything (bhavān sarvam)." Because he spoke howling (ruvan), that is Rudra's nature as Rudra; that they said "Lord (bhavān)", that is Bhava's nature as Bhava; that they said "all (sarvam)", that is Śarva's nature as Śarva. He became auspicious (śiva); that is Śiva's nature as Śiva. He was gracious to them; that is Mṛḻa's nature as Mṛḻa. The gods said to him: "Be overlord of what has been and what will be."
