‘Firm like stone may I abide, through the Jagatī metre. The person is the jewel, breath the thread, food the knot; that knot I untie, desiring food. [Deliver] the Brahmin from death! May I attain a full lifespan; may I live long; may I not die without my wish; may I possess food, may I be an eater of food, svāhā!’ ‘Firm like iron may I abide, through the Triṣṭubh metre. The person is the jewel, breath... svāhā!’ ‘Firm like copper may I abide, through the Uṣṇih metre. The person is the jewel, breath... svāhā!’ ‘Firm like lead may I abide, through the Kakubh metre. The person is the jewel, breath... svāhā!’ ‘Firm like silver may I abide, through the metre of self-rule. The person is the jewel, breath... svāhā!’ ‘Firm like gold may I abide, through the Gāyatrī metre. The person is the jewel, breath... svāhā!’ ‘Firm like food may I abide, through the Virāj metre. The person is the jewel, breath... svāhā!’ ‘Firm like satisfaction may I abide, through the Anuṣṭubh metre. The person is the jewel, breath... svāhā!’ ‘Firm like the firmament may I abide, through the metre of universal rule. The person is the jewel, breath... svāhā!’ ‘Firm like Bṛhaspati may I abide, through the Bṛhatī metre. The person is the jewel, breath... svāhā!’ ‘Firm like Brahman may I abide, through the Paṅkti metre. The person is the jewel, breath... svāhā!’ ‘Firm like Prajāpati may I abide, through the hyper-metre. The person is the jewel, breath... svāhā!’ ‘Firm like the Sāvitrī [verses] may I abide, through the metre of all the Vedas. The person is the jewel, breath... svāhā!’ He should give the remainder of the food to his beloved wife, or to a beloved resident pupil, or to whomever else he may desire. He indeed lives a hundred years; practicing it again and again, he truly lives, he truly lives.
