All of them were dispatched together at once in that manner. Agni alone won among them. As he went along after having set off, his axle broke. His chariot wheel, having fallen off, rolled around near the edge of the box into the black earth. Having seen it, they said of him: 'Indeed this one will be an eater of food, pre-eminent, or evil has rolled away from him.' He who, knowing thus, causes [it] to turn, becomes an eater of food, the most pre-eminent among his own people, and also they turn that evil away from him. Having conquered, that Agni ran forth. Indra said to him: 'Let it belong to both of us together.' 'No,' he said. 'Whatever one of household members obtains, that indeed belongs to all together. Let it belong to both of us together.' 'No,' he said. 'Then look upon me.' He looked upon him. He said: 'You have looked upon me for reconciliation; it has come to belong to both of us together.' 'Whomever I shall look upon,' he said, 'will that one share with me?' 'No,' he said. 'You looked upon me for reconciliation; it has indeed come to belong to both of us together.'
