Three meters indeed carry the sacrifice: the Gāyatrī, the Triṣṭubh, the Jagatī. The Anuṣṭubh is closely attached right to the end of it. By it the gods desired to go to the heavenly world. By it they did not reach [it]. Upon it they placed the four-footed cattle: the cow, the horse, the goat, and the sheep. By it they reached [it]. Having gone to the heavenly world, they said: "Great (bṛhatī) indeed has this become, by which we reached this." That is the Bṛhatī-ness of the Bṛhatī. Before that there was no meter named Bṛhatī. This Bṛhatī is indeed cattle. With that with which they adopt the finale, with that he introduces the chant. With that he takes up the beginning again. Therefore cattle are born from where they are conceived; from there they are born again. He should not make the vaṣaṭ-call with the Bṛhatī, so that cattle are not cut off. If he should make the vaṣaṭ-call with the Bṛhatī, he would cut off cattle with the thunderbolt of the vaṣaṭ-call.
