taṃ brahmaṇe dadāti
brahmaṇo hyevaikadakṣiṇā
tadāhurhuto deyā3 ahutā3 iti
ahuta ityāhuḥ
yātayāmeva vai tathā syādyaddhutaṃ dadyāditi
tadu vā āhurhuta eva deyaḥ

He gives it to the brahman priest; for the brahman priest has a single sacrificial gift. As to that they say, ‘Should it be given offered, or unoffered?’ They say, ‘Unoffered. For it would be exhausted (yātayāma), as it were, if he should give what is offered.’ But regarding that they also say, ‘It must indeed be given offered.
