This brahmasāman is indeed the wish of the sacrificer.
They provide the sacrificer with desires in his own domain.
The Hotṛ's pṛṣṭha is seventeen-fold;
Prajāpati is seventeen-fold;
they go across Prajāpati himself in the middle.
The maitrāvaruṇa's is twenty-one-fold;
twelve months, five seasons, these three worlds, and that yonder sun is the twenty-first;
they go across him in the middle.
The brāhmaṇācchaṃsin's is thrice-nine-fold;
thrice-nine are these worlds;
they go across these worlds in the middle.
The acchāvāka's is sixteen-fold;
the sixteen-fold is faculty and vital power;
they flourish precisely through faculty and vital power.
And that sixteen-fold is over there for the acchāvāka;
that makes thirty-two;
the anuṣṭubh has thirty-two syllables,
[thinking:] "Whatever desire is in the anuṣṭubh, may that be attained by us!"
