Speech alone. / The first day of the three-day rite belongs to the Gāyatrī; the second day belongs to the Triṣṭubh; the third day belongs to the Jagatī. / What is contrary in another three-day rite is regular in this one; what is regular in this one is contrary in another. / That this day, being higher, is made lower, thereby they propagate cattle for the sacrificer, for cattle are not born in that world. / These are indeed the most vigorous of meters: the Gāyatrī and the Triṣṭubh. / In that the Gāyatrī and the Triṣṭubh are on both sides, and in the middle cattle, the Jagatī, / they enclose cattle on both sides with these most vigorous meters for the sacrificer, so they are not scattered. / His property is not scattered, who knows this. / That one which burns yonder is indeed the three-day rite. / Just as he rises, such is its first day; as it is midday, such is the second; as he sets, such is the third. / He who knows this thus attains companionship and union with him.
