There are indeed three equinoxes of these worlds: Agni is the equinox of this world, Vāyu of the intermediate space, and Āditya of heaven. By means of this, he crosses beyond them. It has three fronts, belonging to Indra, for victory. By means of a three-fronted divine seat the gods conquered the asuras. Therefore, an army which even now has three fronts conquers indeed. Just as one would march forth to conquer with a three-fronted army, so does he march forth to conquer the heavenly world by means of this; he who knows this conquers the heavenly world. Now, he who desires food should sacrifice with that one whose rite has the Jyotis as an Atirātra, the Pṛṣṭhya-six-day rite, the twenty-five-fold Mahāvrata, and the Jyotis as an Atirātra. Regarding this, they say: 'One should not approach the Mahāvrata before a year.' Since there is the Pṛṣṭhya-six-day rite—and the pṛṣṭhas are the seasons, and the seasons are the year—and the year cooks all food, they approach that very food conquered through the year. The twenty-five-fold is the Mahāvrata; food is twenty-five-fold, for the attainment of food alone. The Jyotis is an Atirātra: this is the well-known ford of the gods, namely the Jyotis as an Atirātra, so that he may think, 'Uninjured, by the well-known, uninjured ford of the gods, may I reach the conclusion.'
