Thus they become not following behind another. / A thunderbolt, indeed, is this fifteen-night rite. / By the fifteen-night rite as a thunderbolt, indeed, the gods overcame the Asuras. / Those who consider themselves, as it were, seized by evil, let them undertake precisely this fifteen-night rite. / Having overcome evil, the enemy, by the fifteen-night rite as a thunderbolt, they rise up. / And concerning this, Yāmana Bhrātalāyana said: 'The Sarasvatī which I conquered by the fifteen-night rite as a thunderbolt—who else is entitled to settle upon it? / With a thunderbolt, indeed, I conquered it; / difficult to reconquer, indeed, is what has been conquered by a thunderbolt.' / Now, these nights amount to the Virāj and the Gāyatrī. / These two, indeed, are the most vigorous of the meters: namely, the Virāj and the Gāyatrī. / Thinking, 'Those two which are the most vigorous among the meters, in them may we prosper, in them may we find support; with them let it not be un-praised,' [they perform it]. / They reach the Virāj. / Thereby they attain lordship and sovereign rule over the food of the Virāj. / The Virāj deficient by one [syllable]—deficient is that part of a woman from which she gives birth; thereby comes procreation. / The introductory Atirātra is sacred to Vaiśvānara; for non-soma-sacrificial periods have their beginning in Vaiśvānara.
