just as if two footprints were laid in different directions, one might stand not knowing, 'Did he go by this way? Or by that way?'—even so is the track of Death effaced, so that evil does not follow after. Death does not follow after him; he slays evil and goes to the heavenly world. Having gone to the furthest end, they were afraid again. He led them across by means of this very unexpressed thirty-three-fold [stoma], and explicitly declared them with the expressed [stoma]. Then indeed they conquered that Death who is in the heavenly world. He indeed conquers that Death who is in the heavenly world who knows thus. These nights are the year, the embryo of the year. Offspring and cattle live upon the embryo of the year. These nights are pregnant. Just as a python has swallowed [its prey], so are these nights. And when a python has swallowed, both ends are slender, while the middle is thick. These nights are indeed the form of satiety. He who attains prosperity attains satiety. 'May we attain satiety, seniority, pre-eminence, prosperity'—therefore they undertake these nights.
