The semen of him who was pierced fell away. It became established on the Himavat. It became human. Then the gods and the seers, having approached, said: "Let this not be spoiled!" Because they said: "Let this not be spoiled," that is why what is human is called māduṣa. "Māduṣa" indeed is its name; it is known as "mānuṣa". They kindled it around with fire. The Maruts blew. They cooked it with the Śrāyantīya [sāman]. That is why the Śrāyantīya is so called. From it cattle were created. Those that were created first were red. Those that were created as it was being heated were reddish-brown. Those that were created from it when heated were brown. Those that were created as it was burning were white and black. Therefore the fire burns only two kinds: white and black. From the sparks alone goats and antelopes were created, and from the burning coals the Aṅgirases.

From the ashes mixed with charcoal three barren cows were created: one for Mitra and Varuṇa, one for Bṛhaspati, and one for the All-Gods.
From the ashes alone the donkey was created.
Therefore he resembles ashes.
Therefore he lives while being burdened.
This sāman generates heroes and brings cattle.
Indeed heroes were born then, namely the Aṅgirases.
And these cattle were created.
A hero is born to him, he obtains cattle, he becomes rich in cattle who knows thus.
If someone has fallen from the sacrifice, they should use the Śrāyantīya as his brahmasāman on the pṛṣṭhas.
For the pṛṣṭhas and the stotras shake off him who has fallen from the sacrifice.
They establish him firmly upon the pṛṣṭhas and the stotras [by saying]:
"From where we fear, Indra, make us free from fear.
O generous one, show your power for our protection; strike down haters, strike down adversaries!"
Thus with this [verse] they strike away adversaries, namely evil.
