From the ashes mixed with charcoal three barren cows were created: one for Mitra and Varuṇa, one for Bṛhaspati, and one for the All-Gods.
From the ashes alone the donkey was created.
Therefore he resembles ashes.
Therefore he lives while being burdened.
This sāman generates heroes and brings cattle.
Indeed heroes were born then, namely the Aṅgirases.
And these cattle were created.
A hero is born to him, he obtains cattle, he becomes rich in cattle who knows thus.
If someone has fallen from the sacrifice, they should use the Śrāyantīya as his brahmasāman on the pṛṣṭhas.
For the pṛṣṭhas and the stotras shake off him who has fallen from the sacrifice.
They establish him firmly upon the pṛṣṭhas and the stotras [by saying]:
"From where we fear, Indra, make us free from fear.
O generous one, show your power for our protection; strike down haters, strike down adversaries!"
Thus with this [verse] they strike away adversaries, namely evil.
