Now, Keśin Dārbhya lived with Kabandha Ātharvaṇa.
At that time, the meters were only conjoined, not shifted.
Then Kabandha Ātharvaṇa taught this twelve-day rite with shifted meters to Keśin Dārbhya:
'Gratify the Gāyatrī three times, the Triṣṭubh three times, the Jagatī three times.
Others shall covet the livelihood of your offspring; your offspring shall not [covet theirs].'
With it he sacrificed.
Thenceforth, down to this time, the meters are shifted.
Therefore, even though the Pañcālas are not wealthy, others indeed covet their livelihood.
Regarding this there are these two verses:
'Why do the creations go upward from the earth? Why do they go crosswise along the intermediate space?
Why, created, do they go downward from the upper sky, following the rays of the sun?'
'Gāyatrī, clothed in the Trivṛt [stoma], pushed Triṣṭubh from the intermediate space;
she [pushed] Jagatī from her abode above the sky; therefore the creations stream downward.'
