Ten are the days of the twelve-day rite. Its introductory rite and concluding rite are these two worlds: this world is the introductory rite, that world is the concluding rite. Its eastern quarter is the first day; this [south-eastern] is the second; this [southern] is the third; this [south-western] is the fourth; this [western] is the fifth; this [north-western] is the sixth; this intermediate quarter [the northern] is the seventh day; this [north-eastern] is the eighth; this [upward] is the ninth; this [downward] is the tenth. This twelve-day rite is established in all the quarters. He comes to share the world with all the gods. Even the gods have no power over him [to prevent] that he should not reach them. He who knows thus is indeed one of the gods. The twelve-day rite is Prajāpati. His worlds are the quarters. This twelve-day rite is established in all worlds. He who thus knows this twelve-day rite established in all worlds is established in all worlds. This twelve-day rite is indeed he who shines here [the sun]; he is Indra, he is Prajāpati, he is this all. For his sake, the brahman having been placed upon [him], shines.
