Kusurvinda Auddālaki chanted the udgītha of the soma [sacrifices]. The Asitamṛgas, sons of the Kaśyapas, said to him: ‘Who is this villain chanting the udgītha within our [precinct]? Come, let us speak a curse against him!’ Intending to speak a curse, they approached the singing-place. He said: ‘Homage be to the Brahmins! Today, before the morning litany, with the gāyatrī, on the Viśvarūpā [verses], I brought the sacrifice to completion. As one having chased away an animal with cattle would push after a weak ascetic, so indeed do we push after the body of this sacrifice.’ They stood up and went away, [saying]: ‘Homage be to this Brahmin! He has truly known this!’ Before the morning litany, indeed, with the gāyatrī, on the Viśvarūpā [verses], the sacrifice is completed for him who knows thus.
