'The dappled one, foremost, made the dawns shine,' [he recites] for one who desires offspring. He should spread it out with all of them for the attainment of all these desires. He brings king Soma. He consecrates him: 'So clarify yourself, well-seated among the gods, unto the dear abodes! Thrice you were clarified for the gods, thrice for the Ādityas, thrice for the Aṅgirases. With that fourth sacred prayer by which you were clarified for Bṛhaspati, with that clarify yourself for me! As such clarify yourself for our welfare, for the cow, welfare for the people, welfare for the steed, welfare, O king, for the plants!' It becomes welfare indeed for the Udgātṛ, welfare for the sacrificer, welfare for the offspring. The Adhvaryu makes the hiṃ sound while drawing the Āgrayaṇa cup. That alone becomes the making of the hiṃ sound. Then the Udgātṛ sings the Gāyatra sāman on a single verse: 'Born high from your juice...' He carries the oblation from here upward to the gods: 'Dwelling in heaven, I take it from the earth'—from there he causes rain to flow down. He makes these two worlds co-dwellers. They swell with desire for him. These two worlds swell with desire for him who knows thus.
