They do something cruel, as it were, to the sacrifice, in that having slain King Soma with the stones in the havirdhāna shed, they glide out for the Bahiṣpavamāna chant. 'What is the expiation for that?' they say: they should touch water. Water indeed is the appeasement of all. It is with water that they appease it. Speech was sluggish at first for this journey as she glided out for the Bahiṣpavamāna chant. Prajāpati said to her: 'I will make a share for you; then glide!' When about to glide out for the Bahiṣpavamāna chant, he should make an offering: 'May I be pleasing to speech, pleasing to the lord of speech! O divine speech, what is sweetest of your speech, in that place me! Svāhā to Sarasvatī!' If he were to offer with: 'To Sarasvatī svāhā,' he would enclose speech, Sarasvatī, with the exclamation svāhā. But in that he offers with: 'Svāhā to Sarasvatī,' he thereby places speech after the exclamation svāhā. With her enclosed, he extends the sacrifice; for by speech the sacrifice is extended upward. Or he should offer: 'Vekurā is your name, dispatched for the divine work; be benevolent to us, easy to control, bringing true blessings to the sacrificer, svāhā!' Vekurā indeed is speech; speech is brahman. Having thus offered an oblation to the speech of brahman, he glides out; he does not suffer harm.
