—sleep, drowsiness, wrath, hunger, desire for dice, desire for women.
These evils indeed attend man in this world.
[The gods said:] 'Whoever, having crossed over this, shall desire to do good in this world, [him] do you seek to harm in this world!' Thus they placed fire in this world,
wind in the intermediate space, [and] the sun in heaven.
Ugradeva Rājanī indeed used to say: 'I do not bear malice toward a human being, whom I have heard of as having these three best among the gods bearing malice toward him.
For he against whom these deities bear malice is fully malice-stricken.'
And these deities do not bear malice toward him who knows thus.
And they seek to harm him who seeks to harm one who knows thus.
Those gods said: 'Whichever deities [and] meters have entered into man,
with these very ones let us injure the Asuras.'
